Automotive exhaust gas catalysts play an essential role in reducing harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC) by converting them into harmless substances like carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen, and oxygen.
Although catalyst performance degrades over time, it does not significantly affect drivability. Furthermore, the degradation level does not strongly correlate with mileage and depends on driving conditions, making accurate evaluation difficult.
This research focuses on developing identification and diagnostic techniques to accurately detect catalyst degradation.
