In recent years, besides special electronic devices like computer servers, professional audio and video equipments, complex and diversifiable performance switching power supply has significantly been used in general electronic devices like personal computers, game consoles and communication equipments. Example of complex and diversifiable performance required are multi-level and high quality of voltage, quality assurance of transient state when power on and power off, voltage stability of the specific digital load, quality maintenance for the aging, failure or lifetime diagnosis and distributed and parallel redundant operation of communication function. However, since analog circuit of switching power supply is composed by both linear and nonlinear elements, high precision control becomes difficult as the device will behave in nonlinear function. Furthermore, due to the fact that the energy conversion process of switching power supply is depending on the input voltage and the load conditions, therefore, it is difficult to control.
Hence, this research aims to achieve the demanded performance as describe in above with low cost by doing advance research and development on altering the LSI and analog control general purpose switching power supply to the one that digitally controlled. In other words, this research project is about making an intelligent switching power supply by integrating analog circuit technology with advanced digital control.
